"영어 마스터하는 방법"에 대해서 밑에다 답글을 죽 달아 줬는데

내용이 참 좋네...공부도 할겸 영어로 옮겨봤으니

볼 놈만 보고 안볼놈은 안보기 바란다.

 

글쓴이 생각에 100프로 동감입니다. 그 어떤 것은 "기술적인 관점"에서 마스터했다고 할 수 없습니다. 단순히 사람들이 조금 잘 하면 "마스터"했다고 생각하는 비합리적인 (또는 성급한/경솔한) 언어생활때문에 발생한 것이라고 보고 싶네요

 

I agree  100 percent with the opinions of the writer.

There is nothing that can be said to be mastered in terms of being technical.

All too often, people are likely to believe that someone has mastered something out of a slightly better performances, which seems to be because of

their rash or unreasoble way of language usage.

 

특히나, 네이티브 영어학자도 모르는 것이 많은 문법과 어휘를 가지고 있고 그래서 정리조차 제대로 되지 못한 영어를 영어와는 전혀 다른 체계를 가진 한국인이 마스터했다는 것은 영어에 대해서 조금만 알고 있다면 거의 개소리에 가깝다고 느끼는 것은 지극히 상식적인 일이라 봅니다

 

As a matter of fact, 잉글리시 is a language the grammar and vocabulary of which bear much part that even native languagists are unable to explain or

calssify systematically. Considering this, if someone living in qutie a different langage world insists that he has mastered 잉글리시, it would sound like

almost nonsense.

 

한국학생들에게 좌절스런 이야기지만, 평균적인 한국학생들이 접근도 못하고 극히 일부정도가 소위 말하는 "통달"했다고 하는 성문종합이나 맨투맨 종합이 커버하고 있는 문법의 양은 실제 현지에서 유학생활을 하다보면 거의 맨땅에 헤딩하고 있다는 것을 느끼게 해줄 정도로 미미한 수준이란 겁니다. 그 정도로 한국인에게 영문법은 잔인할정도의 난이도를 가진 언어라 봅니다.                    

 

Frustratingly, the volume of  성문종합 or 맨투맨 종합영어 is a far cry from enough to get by in 잉글리시 speaking countries.

Those books are cosidered so difficult that only few korean learners are challenging and satisfed with their sense of mastery.

So, 잉글리시 can be said to be a hell language that has untouchably difficult level of grammar.

 

그럼 소위 말하는 아카데믹스나 공식 석상에서 쓰이는 영어를 이해하는데 필수적인 영문법을 끝내면 거기서 끝일까요? 당연히 아니죠. 지옥훈련처럼 보여줬던 문법공부는 이제 본격적으로 영어의 세계로 들어가게 끔 해주는 기본 입문서에 지나지 않습니다. 이제 어휘가 기다리고 있습니다. 어휘에는 또한 학문이나 비즈니스 문서상에 쓰이는 소위 말하는 격식적인 용도에 쓰이는 딱딱한 어휘군이 존재합니다. 이게 네이티브 스피커들에겐 더 어려운 것인데, 대학교육을 제대로 마친 사람이나 쉽게 쓸 수 있는 수준의 어휘인데, 그런데 영어를 배우는 한국인에겐 그나마 가장 쉬운 것이라는 모순적인 현상이 있죠...                    

 

Then, it will do if we learn enoughly about academic or formal 잉글리시?

Of course not.

Even after our  hell grammar study, we are just on the verge of 잉글리시 world.

Next is vocabulary.

 

잉글리시 vocabulary has mountains of formal and academic words that we usually find from academic or business materials.

It is ironical for most koreans to feel relatively more comfortable with those difficult words, even though they are very difficult to most natives excepting

some highly educated ones.

 

ㄴ 이 정도까지 소위 말하는 동양의 엘리트들 중에서 영어공부를 제대로 한 사람들이 보여주는 영어라 보는데 (대표적으로 반기문), 다행히도 네이티브들은 이런 영어를 구사하는 이들을 높게 평가합니다. 왜냐면, 어휘나 문장을 구성하는 능력이 "식자층"의 것이라 보기 때문이죠. 쉽게 말하면 배운 사람들이 쓰는 영어를 구사하기 때문이란 건데.....네이티브들은 발음이나 억양 그렇게 안 따져요...의사소통이 중요한 것이고 말하는 내용이 중요하다고 보는 "합리적이고 실용적인" 태도 때문에 말이죠

 

Actually, this is the 잉글리시 level that so-called elites such as 반기문 can show.

Luckily, natives consider that kind of 잉글리시 as sophisticated beacuse their vocabulary and sentences seem to be from

someone well educated. In other words, natives think their 잉글리시 is very decent and elegant.    

Actually, most natives don't value their accent or intonation.

Communication is most important and the contents matter. They have very practical and reasonable way of thinking.

 

하지만, 영어는 당연히 여기서 끝나는게 아닌데, 이런 격식체 영어와는 완전히 다른 일상영어 또는 구어체 또는 회화 영어가 있습니다. 이 영어의 특징은 위의 문어체 영어가 가진 모순처럼 네이티브들에겐 가장 쉬운 형태의 영어지만 이상하게도 한국인과 일본인에겐 가장 어려운 형태의 영어라는 겁니다                    

        

Anyway, 잉글리시 is more. Besides formal 잉글리시, there are also daily 잉글리시 or colloquial 잉글리시.

These 잉글리시 are very easy to natives, but ironically not to korean or japanese.

Asian people are usually clumsy at daily 잉글리시.

 

그리고 가장 쉬워야할 구어체 회화 영어가 한국인에게 가장 어렵게 다가오는 이유는 - 좀 더 생각을 해봐야 겠지만, 현재까지 생각해 본 바로는 - 문어체 영어는 한국식으로 생각하는 논리를 그대로 적용시켜서 그대로 문법규칙에 맞춰서 단어를 끼워맞추면 의사소통이 가능해지는데, 회화체 영어는 그렇지 않다는 겁니다

 

 I wonder why daily 잉글리시 comes across to korean people as most difficult.

 My view, so far, is that we can get, somehow,  accustomed to written 잉글리시 by virtue of grammar rules, although trapped in korean style way

 of thinking. However, this method does not pay off with daily 잉글리시.

 

사전을 뒤져보면 get have take같은 가장 많이 쓰이는 동사들을 보세요....이런 단어들이 가진 의미가 너무나 많은데 그게 한국식으로 이해가 안가는 경우가 너무 많아요. 그런데 이런 동사들이 다른 품사들과 결합되어 숙어나 구동사를 만드는데 그들이 하나의 의미만을 가지고 있는게 아녜요. 그래서 이게 죽었다 깨나도 한국인이 자기것으로 만들기가 너무나 어렵다는 겁니다. 그러니깐 가장 쉬운 단어들이 가진 특성이 영어를 한국인에게 가장 어려운 언어로 만들고 있다는 겁니다                    

 

Look up in your dictionary and find the words such as get, have, take that are used most frequently.

You may be shocked with the fact that those words have really many differnet meanings most of which can not be understood with our way of thinking.

On top of that, those words ttransform themselves into phrase verbs in combination with other words. They also have so many different meanings.

That is the reason that it is so difficult or almost impossible for a korean to master 잉글리시.

In a nut shell, it is easier and simpler 잉글리시 words that make 잉글리시 really difficult.

 

이런 기초적인 단어를 가지고 만들어 내는 수 많은 표현들뿐만 아니라 영어는 인구도 많고 한국보다 많이 진보된 분야가 많고 그리고 ebonoics 처럼 다양한 인종때문에 발생하는 또 다른 형태의 영어들이 존재하는데 문제는 그들이 모두 섞여 있다는 겁니다....그래서 영어는 해보면 해볼수록 그 끝이 가까워지는 것이 아니라 오히려 더 멀어져 보이는 잔인한 언어라고 느끼게 할 때가 정말 많습니다.

 

From a different perspective of view, let alone so many diffrent expressions steming from basic words, 잉글리시 is in a sense kind of a melting pot that contains the aspects from it's ethnic diversity, or jargons at the cuttling edge.

So, 잉글리시 is gradually far way from your mastery, the more you study.

In this sense, this language is of cruelty.

 

그래서 미국에서 누구나 쓸 수 있는 기초적인 생활영어 조금 할 수 있다고 "나 영어 잘해!" 라고 하는 건 정말 경솔한 행동이라고 밖에 볼 수 없는데 그런데 한국은 그게 먹히는 곳이라는 겁니다 ㅠㅠㅠㅠ 영어 자체에 대한 이해도가 없는 전문가들이 뿌려놓은 말도 안되는 지식이 사회 전체에 이미 퍼질대로 퍼져서 말이죠....그 시초가 오성식으로 보여지는데...                    

 

It is reckless for you to say, in the US,  "I am good at 잉글리시" because you can speak a little daily 잉글리시.

However, OK in Korea.

That is why the misinformation spread by psudo 잉글리시 experts are prevailing.

The orgin may be MR OH.

 

말하면 끝이 없으니 결론 또는 저의 개인적 바램 또는 권고 사항만 이야길 할께요

한국어보다 훨씬 넓고 광범위한 특징을 가진 영어를 공부할 때 어떤 영어를 목표로 해야 하는가? 라고 묻는다면

당연히 제가 가장 위에 언급한 격식체/문어체/아카데믹한 영어입니다. 그리고 그 이유는..

 

In conclusion, I would like to set forth my advice or recommendation.

If we ask me "what kind of goal we should set while learing 잉글리시 that has far broader teritory compared to Korean,

I would answer "you had better focus on formal 잉글리시".....Why?

 

) 생활영어 조금 잘하는 것은 실제로 쓸모가 없습니다 (한국에서 사는데 왜 당연히 외국인과 살 것이라는 전제를 두고 생각하는가? 유학생이나 해외 거주자라면 당연히 어느 정도의 생활영어가 필요하지만)

 

A little daily 잉글리시 is just of little use.

(You live in korea and why are you putting yourself in situation living with foreigners? You are students or residents staying overseas?

If not, no need.)

 

2) 그리고 네이티브들은 생활영어 조금 씨부린다고 그게 똑똑한 거라고 생각하지 않습니다. 뭐 말 좀 유창하게 잘한다고 생각하겠지만, 그들이 똑똑하다고 생각하는 외국인은 반기문처럼 발음이나 구어체 영어가 구리긴 하지만 조금 어려운 수준의 어휘를 가지고 문법적으로 정확하고 논리적으로 자신의 생각을 전달하는 사람입니다

 

Natives don't value your little daily 잉글리시. Of course, they may think you are fluent in 잉글리시. but the people who they consider as smart are

a pserson like 반기문 who can has a grammatically corect and logical command of 잉글리시 as well as highly educated vocabulary.

 

. 생활영어는 그 유창하다는 정도도 사실 네이티브에 비교하면 초딩수준에 지나지 않은 것이고 그리고 그 정도에 가기 위해서 투자되는 비용과 시간이 너무나 엄청나다는 단점또한 있습니다. 달리 말하면 가성비가 형편없다는 거죠. 게다가 외국인하고 살지 않으면 필요조차 없습니다. 그리고 더 중요한 것은 후천적으로 터득한 생활영어는 매일 쓰지 않으면 아주 빨리 사라져 버립니다. 그래서 더더욱 가성비가 형편없는 것이 생활영어입니다

 

Every native boys can speak daily 잉글리시 better than any korean.

It costs too much time and money for an adult korean to get on to such a level of daily 잉글리시.

In other words, big cost but little return,

Absolutedly no need unless you have to live with a foreigner.

More importantly, daily 잉글리시 attained at late ages are gone so easily if you don't use everyday.

It makes things worse.
