내용도 한번 다시 보구...공부 차원에서 영역을 올립니다.

그러니 볼 분들은 보시고 아닌 분들은 마시길...

 

새해를 맞아서 나도 다른 사람들이 다 하는 영어 한번 해 보자 싶어서 영어학원에 등록하거나

서점에서 잘 팔리는 영어책 하나 사서 공부하는 사람들 많죠.

 

At the begining of the new year, so many people go to an 잉글리시 academy  to learn 잉글리시.

Book stores are also briming with people looking for 잉글리시 books.

 

근데 철저하게 잘못되어 있습니다. 목표가 없습니다. 하루에 그냥 1시간씩 하자. 차라리 헬스장 끊어서 운동하세요.

몸이라도 좋아집니다.

목표없이 영어를 그냥 마구잡이로 하겠다는건 결국 나도 '준원어민' 정도는 되어보자 라는 심리가 깔려 있겠지요.

 

I think there are serious problems in their attitude because most of them have no specific goals.

I recommend them to go to a fittness center instead, which will improve your health anyway.

If you intend to learn 잉글리시 without clear goals, you are subconsciously having a dream to become highly native-like.

 

전 영어는 스포츠랑 같다고 봅니다.

볼링을 처음 치러 갔는데, 공은 어떻게 잡고 어떻게 굴리는지 점수는 어떻게 매기는지 모르는 상태겠죠.

그래도 주위 사람들이 하는 거 보고 따라하면서 점점 스트라이크도 만들고 점수도 올라갑니다.

 

In my view, 잉글리쉬 is similiar to sports.

If you go bowling for the first time, you don't know how to grip  or roll the ball.

However, you can play better gradually, looking at other people's plays.

You will eventually make strikes, with your scores up.

 

그리고 더 잘 치기 위해서 유투브에 다른 사람들이 볼링 치는 것도 보고 강의도 듣고 합니다.

그런데 볼링 치는 사람이 처음 부터 볼링 교본을 사고 동영상 강의를 등록해서 그 내용을 완벽히 숙지 하고 볼링장에 가지는 않습니다.

그렇게 먼저 내용을 다 안다고 해도 볼링장에 가면 그 생각대로 볼링이 쳐질까요?

볼링을 치는 목적이 사람마다 다르지만, 이 사람은 친목도모 이고, 놀이를 위한 볼링입니다. 이 사람은 '볼링대회에 나가서 우승' 하거나

볼링을 전문적으로 연구하는 '학자'가 되는 것이 목표가 아닙니다.

 

From time to time, you will log on to 유투브 to learn from vedioes about how other people play the game.

By the way, every bowling player had to learn about how to play the game from the beginning stage?

Even so, could he play as he had learned in advance?

The goals for bowling are different accroding to every single player. But, let me assume that here is a man whose goal for bowling is

just socializing. He doesn't intend to win a fomal contest or  become an expert in the field of bowling.

 

영어를 시작한다고 하면 먼저 문법책을 잡고 단어책을 삽니다. 그리고는 그걸 먼저 다 독파하고 내용을 완전히 외울 정도로 합니다.

이제 내용을 다 아니까 영어로 된 지문이나 듣기를 하면 다 되겠지? 라고 생각하는거랑 다르지 않습니다.

그리고 영문법의 기초는 누가 정해주나요? 그리고 단어는 뭐가 기초 단어죠?

어디까지가 알아야 될 기초죠? 어떤 종합문법책이 있으면 그 문법책이 기본이고, 그 문법책의 내용을 안 보고도 적을 수 있으면

영어를 시작할 기본베이스가 된 거라고 볼 수 있나요?

아니죠.

 

Many people are looking for a grammar or vocabulary book soon after stating 잉글리시 learning.

Then, he master the book to such an extent that he could memorize all.

Now, he knows everything about the book. Can he listen to  잉긇리시 scripts?

 

You need to think who can define the basics of 잉글리시 grammar?

And, what are basic words?...who can decide?

How much do you have to know as the basics?

Can we take it as okay for you to have a comprehensive grammar book and study it to the degree you can

bring up all the contents from your memory?

 

No, at at all.

 

목표가 중요합니다. 인간은 그렇게 완벽하지 않습니다. 그리고 너무 극단적으로 몰아가는 방식은 잘 먹히지 않습니다.

한국은 영어가 second language 가 아니죠. 그럼 사실상 영어는 필요없습니다. 주위에 영어를 쓰는 사람이 없고, 영어를 배워도

써먹을곳이 없는데 시간들여서 배울 이유가 없습니다. 지금 당장 그 영어로 뭘 할 수 있나요? 생각해보세요.

이 논리를 깨려면, 한국인은 거의 사용하지도 않는 아랍어나 러시아어도 무조건 배워야 한다는 사실을 인정해야 합니다.

하필 많고 많은 언어 중에 영어일까요?

 

It is your goal that counts. Human beings are not so perfect.

And, too much extreme methods usually don't work out.

Korea is not a country accepting 잉글리시 as the second official language.

Practically, 잉글리시 is no need.

We have no one around who speak 잉글리시  and nowhere 잉글리시 can be useful.

You don't need to spend your money and time only to learn 잉글리시.

What can you do right now with your 잉글리시.....Think!!

 

To overcome this logic, koreans must admit that we also have to learn many other languages of no use.

Of all languages, why 잉글리시?

 

참고로 미국인이 한국어 배울때도 우리 처럼 이렇게 영어에 대해서 수 많은 논쟁을 할까요? 뭘 먼저 해야 되고, 어떻게 해야 되는지.

한국사람이 토익 점수를 받고 스피킹 점수에서 고득점을 얻는다고 해도, 영어를 써먹는건 그 시험에서 그칩니다.

그 영어 어디다 써먹을건가요? 주변에 말 걸 외국인이 많나요? 요즘 외국인이 많이 돌아다니긴 하는데 뜬금 없이 가서 말 걸고 내가 배운 영어

써먹을 용기는 있나요?

 

For your reference, did you ever think if an american get stuck in this kind of arguments, when learning korean?

What to do first/ how to do it?..something like that....

Even though a korean get a high score in TOEIC, he can use his 잉글리시 only for the test.

Anywhere else? Many foreghners to talk with?

Or, are you brave to say "hello" to a strange foreigner, even if you can easily find foreghners in Seoul?

 

목표가 중요합니다. 아카데믹한 영어를 할거냐 생활 영어를 할거냐도 결국 목표에 달려있습니다.

자신이 봐야 할 영어의 컨텐츠가 영어로된 문서라면 그 부분을 집중적으로 봐야 합니다. 내용이 내용이기 때문에 계속 보다보면 익숙해 지고,

내용이 비슷비슷합니다. 실제로 뉴스에서도 그 칼럼이 나눠져 있는데, 범죄부분이면 범죄에 대한 내용을 계속 보면 비슷한 내용이 계속 반복됩니다.

철저하게 목표를 잡으세요. 그리고 사는데 영어가 필요없다고 느끼면 과감하게 접으세요.

영어를 잘하면 영어로된 컨텐츠도 볼 수 있고, 세상을 더 높게 볼 수 있다고 단순히 주장하고 싶은거라면,

중국어로 된 컨텐츠도 볼 수 있으면 더 좋은 거고, 일본어로 된 컨텐츠도 볼 수 있으면 더 좋겠지요.

그럼 그렇게 따지면 지구상의 모든언어를 알아야 하는 건가요?

It depends on your goal if you choose academic 잉글리시 or daily 잉글리시.

If you have to read through lots of 잉글리시 documents, then focus on it.

You can get accustomed to what you read as time goes on because there is similarity between this and that.

For example, news programmes have criminal sections. If you watch the section constantly, you can understand more and more.

Set your goal very clearly.

If you are arguing that your goal is simply to understand the world better, then you may have to learn Chinese, Japanese and

many others too. Almost all languages on the globe.

 

목표가 시험영어면 시험영어 책을 사서 외우고 점수를 얻으세요.

수능도 마찬가지. 암기력을 테스트 하고 지식을 얼마나 알고 있는지 확인하는 시험을 위해서라면 거기에 맞게 대응해줘야 합니다.

마치 '임진왜란은 1592년에 일어난 것이다' 라는 지식을 암기해서 확인하는 것 말이죠.

이것은 '주어가 단수일때 동사에 s나 es를 붙여야 한다' 는 단순히 지식을 아는 것과 같은 이치입니다.

 

If your goal is 잉글리시 test, then buy a book appropriate for the goal and try to get a high score.

It is so with entrance exams. If the test is all about your memorization, then focus on it, as if you might remember that the war between Jo Sun dynasty

and Japan broke out in the year of 1592.

 

Samely applicable when having to remember "If a subject is singular, verb has to have s or es", which is merely testing your knowledge.

 

목표가 외국인과 같이 일을 하는데 영어 대화를 계속 해야 되고 문서도 계속 작업해야 된다면,

그 직종에 맞는 영어 컨텐츠를 보고 듣고 쓰고 말하면 됩니다. 그러면서 문법 사항과 단어를 추가해서 알아가는 겁니다.

문법과 단어를 먼저 알고 나서 하는게 아니라.

이런 사람에게 무작정 도움이 안 될 수도 있는 다른 분야의 내용을

영어로 접하라고 하는 것은 시간 낭비입니다. 이 사람에게 수능에 나오는 아카데믹한 영어를 알아야 되고 습득하고 집어넣어야 한다고 하는 것은

억지 논리입니다. 자신이 내일 바로 써먹을 단어나 문법사항들이 문법책에서 본 내용이 아닐 수도 있는 겁니다.

그리고 문법책을 보고 내용을 안다고 해도 내가 본 오늘 영어컨텐츠에는 그 사항이 나오지 않을 수 도 있습니다.

급한건 문법책에 있는 내용이 우선순위가 높은게 아니라, 내가 봐야 할 컨텐츠가 우선순위가 더 높은 겁니다.

 

If your goal is simply to go bettwer with 잉글리시 speaking environment, you had better prioritize what you actually need.

No need to start with grammar or vocabulary.

It may be waste of time that such a person spend too much time, reading 잉글리시 materials irrelevant to his needs.

It is going too far if you recommend him to focus on academic 잉글리시.

잉글리시 grammar books do not cover what he will encounter through his daily life.

Thus, the priority must go to each one's actual needs, regardless of whether or not it appears on grammar books.

 

목표가 영어로된 컨텐츠를 보고 듣고 하고 싶다면, 그 컨텐츠를 일단 보면서 이해가 안되는 부분은 문법책을 참고하던지, 모르는 단어는

사전을 찾아서 하나하나씩 영어를 이해해나가는 겁니다.

마지막으로 목표가 단순히 '나 남들보다 영어 잘해' 라는 보여주기식을 위해서라면 안하는 것이 더 낫습니다.

한국에서 영어 잘하는 사람은 많습니다. 잘하는 사람 모두가 외부에 나와서 '나 영어 잘한다' 라고 떠들고 다니지 않기 때문에 보이지 않습니다.

그리고 영어로된 문서 작성? 외국인 시키면 됩니다. 외국인 바이어와 대화? 한국어 영어 둘다 잘하는 사람 시키면 됩니다.

기업에서 토익과 스피킹을 잘하는 인재를 뽑으면, 그 사람이 만능이 되기 때문에 회사에게 이익이 될거라고 착각하는 사람 많죠.

헛소리입니다. 어정쩡하게 그렇게 하는 것 보다 잘하는 사람 1명이면 충분합니다. 회사가 점수를 요구하는 건 단지 수 많은 사람들 중에 1~2명을

뽑기 위한 통과의례에 지나지 않습니다.

 

If you simply intend to enjoy 잉글리시 contents, then just do it. And, you can refer to grammar books or dictionaries if necessary.

However, if your goal is to put on airs, then just don't learn 잉글리시.

There are so many koreans who can speak 잉글리시  well.

But, they don't advertise themselves openly.

잉글리시 documents also can be outsourced to a native. Discussion with foreghn buyers also can be on the responsibility of one or two best

잉글리시 speakers in the company.

 

Many people don't understand why companies sellect new staff on the basis of their 잉글리시 ability.

It is no more than a rite of passage in order to single out just few out of too many applicants.

 

여기 보니까 해리포터와 같은 소설책을 보는 사람도 있고 미드를 보는 사람도 있는데, 흥미위주라면 추천합니다.

그런데 이 책을 보고 미드를 보는데 있어서 먼저 우선순위에 해당하는 단어를 먼저 다 집어 넣고, 문법사항을 먼저 다 집어 넣은 다음에

봐야 되겠다고 생각하는 것은 철저하게 잘못된 것이라는 겁니다. 그리고 처음부터 저 컨텐츠를 보고 100% 이해해야 된다고 강박관념을 가지는 것도

문제 입니다. 보면서 하면서 하나씩 알아나가면서 배우는게 언어입니다. 시간이 많이 걸리는 일이라고 생각하면 안하면 됩니다.

책을 보고 먼저 공부를 하고 연구를 하고 나서 그때 가서 뭔가 보던지 듣던지 하자고 생각하는 것을 버려야 합니다.

그냥 수영하고 싶으면 얕은물 부터 들어가서 직접 헤엄치고 하세요. 그리고 나서 하나씩 하나씩 내용을 추가해서 실력을 키우는 거죠.

 

Here, some people are fond of reading 잉글리시 novels, which is no problem if they are interested.

However, if they read the books as if studying grammar books, I'd like to pull them off the books.

And I recommend you to be free from the obssession that you must understand 100 percent when reading.

A language can be learned one by one, step by step. It takes long time and some doing.

Abandon the idea you will have to read books only after attaining the basics.

If you want to swim, then just jump into the water. Swim right now and enjoy.

You can swim better one by one, and  step by step as well.
