도올영어에 대해 좋은 코멘트를 올려주셨네....

내용이 참 좋아서 공부 차원에서 영역해 본다...

볼 놈들만 보고 아닌 놈들은 패스하길...

 

일단 좋은 영상 감사드리고,

 

First of all, thank you for this great vedio.

 

도올이 영어하는 걸 첨으로 봤는데, 도올은 분명히 미국에서 유학하던 시기엔 저것보다 더 빠르게 대화를 할 수 있었을 것으로 보이지만, 역시나 나이를 먹고 영어를 배운 유형이기에 한국에서 오래 살면서 자연스로 기본적인 영어 표현과 단어를 거의 다 까먹어서 아주 힘들게 대화를 하고 있는 것으로 보이네요

 

Actually, I have never seen 도올 speak 잉글리쉬, before.

In my view, he could have spoken 잉글리시 more fastly and fluently back then when studying in the U.S.

But, he now seems to be struggling with his almost forgotten 잉글리시 as he is also a type that learned the language at late ages

and also as a result of having lived in korea for too long.

 

허세로 가득한 흑인 영어를 따라하는 검은 머리 외국인들이나 (트윙키나 바나나) 또는 주한 미군의 영어를 대단한 것으로 보는 경향이 있는 한국인들에겐 김용옥의 영어가 정말 촌스럽다고 느낄 수 있을지도 모르지만, 냉정한 현실은 조기유학은 꿈은 꾸지도 못하는 일반적인 한국인이 영어를 공부했을 경우 도올이 최대치에 가까운 모습이란 걸 생각해 두세요 .

 

Probably, many of koreans look down on his 잉글리시 as they are overpricing 잉글리시 of korean-americans or american soldiers stastioned in korea. However, it is sheer reality that most of us, unable to learn overseas, could reach the level very rarely.  

 

물론, 상상을 초월할 정도로 언어감각이 뛰어난 사람 몇은 도올보다 더 유창한 영어를 구사할 사람도 있겠지만, 도올의 학자적 역량을 떠나서 일단 몇 개의 외국어를 습득할 정도로 학습능력이 뛰어나다는 사람이라는 점을 생각해두고 자신이 영어를 공부했을 시에 어떤 목표를 두는 것이 현실적인 것인지를 판별하고 영어공부를 하세요       

 

Of course, you can speak 잉글리쉬 more fluently than him if you are a language genius.        

However, it is more reasoable that you keep your journey of learning the language setting a realistic objective, considering 도올 is

a man of high capacity to acquire several foreign languages, not to mention his academic capabilities.

 

저런 유창함과는 거리가 먼 영어를 구사하는 수준이 굉장히 머리가 좋은 사람이 보여줄 수 있는 것이라면 일반인은 훨씬 그에 못미칠거란 것은 당연하다는 생각을 가지세요.....그리고 그보다 더 지극히 현실적인 것은 이곳에서 다른 분이 주장한대로 (엔젤님이던가) 그냥 영어를 잘 할 생각은 버리고 그냥 시험점수만 높게 받아서 좋은 대학이나 직장에 들어가는 수준만 하는 것이 가장 이상적인 목표치라 봅니다.

 

If DO OL's 잉글리시 is, although far from fluent, is probably the maximum level that a very smart man could reach, you had better take it

for granted that most of us may fall far short of that level.

On top of that, more relaistically, givp up the mind to speak 잉글리시 well, rather, just have a seizable goal such as getting high scores which

are enough to pass the exams for good universities or workplaces.

 

그리고 도올의 영어에서 볼 수 있는 것은 구세대답게 영문법이 의외로 약할것으로 보인다는 겁니다. 문장구조가 절대 어려운 것이 못나오는 점때문에 그렇게 생각하게 된 건데, 여기서 추론해 볼 수 있는 사실은: 

1. 도올은 하바드를 들어갔지만, 그 이유는 그가 서구에선 거의 연구하지 않는 비인기 토픽인 유교를 다뤘기 때문이고 그리고 거의 전공자가 없는 분야를 택했기에 졸업도 할 수 있었지만, 문법이 취약해서 논문의 수준은 형편없었을 것으로 추정됨 (아주 단순한 형태의 문장들로만 구성되고 그리고 그 표현의 제약으로 인해서 논문자체의 질을 높힐수가 없었을 정도...어려운 컨셉을 설명해야 하는 데 문장 구성력이 뒷받힘을 못해준다는 뜻) 

 

In his 잉글리시, I find there is no sophisticated expressions, gramatically complex, which leads to my impression that he is weak at grammar.

Here, I can infer that ;

 

1. He could be amitted to the Havard univisity by the reasoon he was dealing with confusianism that had been studied just in a blue moon.

   He could graduate, too. But, the quality of his academic papers probably had to be rudimentary because of his linguistic limitations.

   (For example, the papers are full of simplest sentences and their expressional limitatation may get in the way of improving the quality......

    In other words, the writing capacity could not satisfy the needs to eluciadate on complex concepts.)

 

2. 엘리트코스를 밟은 도올의 영문법이 아주 약해 보인다는 점은 제가 이전에 주장한대로 한국의 영문법 수준은 일본에 비해서 턱없이 부족하다는 것의 방증.               

 

2. The fact that he is, although an elite, very weak at grammar suppots my argument that korean's level of 잉글리시 grammar is far hehind 

    that of Japanese.

 

3.  도올이 자기보다 영어를 잘하는 사람이 한국엔 거의 없다고 한 것은 한국의 구세대답게 허세가 잔뜩 들어간 자기 방어적 표현에

     지나지 않다고 봄                    

 

 3.  His argument that no one could speak english better than him in korea just strikes me as a self-defensive remark which is full of sense

     of showing off, a trade mark of old generations.

 

4. 영미권에서 유학을 하고 돌아와서 교수나 부교수 또는 지식인 행세를 하는 인문사회계열의 사람들의 실력은 되도록이면 믿지 맙시다~ 단지 남들보다 조금 더 머리가 좋았을 뿐이고 운이 좋았을 뿐이지, 90프로 이상의 한국의 소위 유학파 지식인들은 언어문제하고 그리고 한국인 자체로서 가진 치밀한 사고 능력의 부족으로 인해서 서양에서 인정받을만하거나 또는 최소한 거기서 살아남을만한 논문을 쓸 수 있는 사람은 거의 존재하지 않기 때문입니다. 도올처럼 뻥카로 자존심 세워가면서 살아가는 사람들이라 보면 될 겁니다. 물론 예외는 항상 존재하구요

 

4. There are many people who act as if they were real intelligent,  taking a professor's job in the wake of getting a degree overseas.

    But, we don't have to overvalue their 잉글리시 at all.

   In my opinion, they are just more lucky or smarter. In fact, more than 90 percent of the intelligents of such kind 

   are just under the level by which they can be respected by the western or get along well up there, because of their lack of language

   capacity and profound logicality, which is also intincially common to most other koreans.

   You may as well consider them as one of those who are showing off, like Do OL.

   Of course, everything has an exception, though.

근데...내 의견으로는 도올 영어도 모 그만하면 쓸만 하던데.......너무 기준이 높은거 아님????ㅋㅋ

솔까 한국사람이 저정도만 해도 아주 훌륭한거지....
