In a political speech at CSIS, President Lee stated that Korea is the only divided country in the world. However, this is not accurate. Cyprus is also a divided nation, split into North and South, each with its own government, Supreme Court, and legislature.
I believe this statement was diplomatically inappropriate, as it implies that Korea does not officially recognize the Republic of Cyprus—even though it is a member of the United Nations.
As the saying goes, <em>"Even a fool, when he keeps silent, is considered wise; when he closes his lips, he is deemed intelligent."</em>
My advice to the president: please be more cautious with your words.
