It depends on the time and efforts you're willing to spend on it and how motivated you are. Ofc you'll ended up needing a native speakers to talk with but you can build foundation to some extent wherever you are. Don't discourage yourself. And leave DC inside to Reddit (or whatever in English) if you really want to start.
