Introduction: Estimating the Scale of Macro-Based Information Warfare on DCInside

As of July 8, 2025, a systematic investigation into the macro-generated propaganda content on DCInside’s “U.S. Politics Gallery” reveals that a significant portion of posts—many of which appear to be part of coordinated information operations—have been deleted over time.

Based on empirical data, I have identified 13 unique macro clusters (A to M), each displaying recurring language patterns, image content, and political narratives. These clusters span across various themes, ranging from personal defamation to international political manipulation.

To understand the scale of censorship or post-removal, I conducted a comparison between:

-The estimated total number of posts in each cluster (based on archived links, content patterns, and temporal distribution), and

-The currently surviving posts, as of our most recent scrape on July 8.

The results are visualized below:

This analysis suggests that approximately 70–80% of macro posts in major clusters (such as D, M, A, and E) have been deleted, either manually or via automated moderation mechanisms. However, subjective observation indicates the real number of deletions may be significantly higher.

The author has personally witnessed the following patterns:

- Macro posts being auto-deleted en masse immediately after exposure or when certain keywords (e.g. “manipulation,” “macro,” “coordinated attack”) were used in responses.

- Identical image macros reappearing repeatedly over months, often deleted within minutes of posting.

- Deletion acceleration following the documentation of these macros—suggesting a reactive, possibly internal suppression system.

Additionally, a macro frequency analysis shows a disturbing rate:

- Macros appeared every 2–3 minutes on average, indicating a tightly looped deployment system.

- Some posts survive for mere seconds to minutes before vanishing, while others are scrubbed hours or days later.

Moreover, broader deletion trends on the DCInside platform corroborate the scale of this phenomenon. Between July 1, 2023 and July 6, 2025:

The gallery’s actual number of posts is 1,107,450, while the expected number based on post IDs should be 1,480,309.

This implies that approximately 372,859 posts—or 25.19% of all posts—have been deleted.

The margin of error is estimated at ±500 to ±1,000 posts.

Given that many macro clusters (especially G~L) contain re-uploaded images and rephrased titles that resemble previously deleted macros, it is highly likely that the real number of deletions for these clusters is vastly underreported.

This deletion pattern—alongside sophisticated phrasing, visual memes, and irregular time stamps—points to a long-running, possibly institutional campaign of digital psychological warfare within a politically sensitive forum.

The following document (EV01 | Verified Macro List) aims to archive and preserve the surviving macro posts for evidentiary and analytical purposes, categorized by thematic cluster.
