일단 아래 글은 tome of corruption이라는 룰북에서 발췌한 글이야.


워낙 옛날 글이라 언디바이디드의 신(있는지 없는지 모르는)인 그레이트 비스트도 나와 있어서 같이 번역할게.


위대한 짐승을 위한 모노리스

순수한 카오스에게 바쳐지는 모노리스는 어떤 크기와 모양으로든 세워집니다.

가장 흔한 것은 단순하고 거칠게 깎은 화강암에, 카오스의 팔각별을 칠하거나 새겨놓은 것입니다.

코른의 추종자들은 슬라네쉬의 모노리스를 더럽히고, 너글의 전사들은 젠취의 모노리스를 훼손시키지만,

모든 카오스의 추종자들은 이 카오스의 현현에게는 언제든 존경을 표합니다.


Monoliths to the Great Beast

Monoliths dedicated to pure Chaos come in almost any shape and size.

The most common are simple, rough-hewn slabs of granite, carved or

painted with the dreaded eight-pointed star of Chaos. While the followers

of Khorne defile the Monoliths of Slaanesh, and Nurgle’s warriors deface

the Monoliths of Tzeentch, all followers of Chaos pay their respects and

homage to this representation of Chaos whenever they find one.


코른을 위한 모노리스

코른의 모노리스는 검은 돌을 잘라 해골과 뼈를 조각해 매우 음침하게 보이는데,

심지어 피가 샘솟듯 뿜어나오기도 합니다.

어떤 이들은 패배한 적들의 뼈와 해골을 온전히 조각하여, 마치 끔찍하고 머리가 여럿 달린

짐승의 잔해처럼 하늘 높이 쌓아올리기도 합니다.

드물게 코른의 수하들은 금속으로 모노리스를 만들어-철과 황동이 추천 재료입니다-공포스런

코른의 상징이나, 양식화된 해골이나, 룬들로 치장합니다.

카오스 드워프의 모노리스는 그 중에서도 뛰어나, 태양이 비치면 마치 거울처럼 반사되어 수 마일

밖에서도 보입니다(옛날에 하슈트 설정이 나오기 전엔 카드웦도 언디바이디드였음).

코른에게 바쳐진 모노리스는 해골 무더기에 덮여 있곤 합니다.

그 어떤 잘난 코른의 챔피언이라도 이 모노리스에 머리 몇 개나 부서진 뼈를 놓지 않고 갈 생각은 감히

하지 못합니다. 그들은 놔둔 모든 해골들이 카오스의 영역 속 코른의 해골 옥좌에서 발견된다고

주장합니다.


Monoliths to Khorne

Khorne’s Monoliths are grim affairs, cut from black rock and covered in

carvings of skulls and bones, sometimes even spewing fountains of blood.

Some are even crafted entirely in the bones and skulls of fallen foes, towering

high into the sky like the remains of some terrible, multi-headed beast.

On rare occasions, the servants of Khorne create their Monoliths out of

metals—iron and brass being the preferred materials—and adorn them with

horrible bas-reliefs of Khorne’s symbol, stylised skulls, and profane runes.

The Monoliths of Chaos Dwarfs are the finest of the lot, often polished to

a mirror sheen that can reflect sunlight for miles around. Regardless of the

shape, Monoliths dedicated to Khorne are always surrounded by mounds of

skulls. No self-respecting Champion of Khorne would dare pass by such a

monument without leaving behind a tribute of severed heads and bleached

bones. They claim every skull left behind can later be found on Khorne’s own

Throne of Skulls in his domain in the Realm of Chaos.


너글을 위한 모노리스

너글의 챔피언들의 기념물은 그 실제 연대에도 불구하고, 언제나 오래되고 부서져 있습니다.

너글은 모습이 어떻든 상관 않고, 그의 모노리스가 시간, 날씨, 그리고 다른 이들에게 더럽혀지는

것을 허락합니다. 그의 모노리스는 둔한 회색의 이판암이나 점판암으로 조각되며, 이끼와 곰팡이,

점액으로 덮여있곤 합니다. 그 한 구석에는 역겨운 뱀들, 두꺼비, 도마뱀, 달팽이, 민달팽이들이

모노리스를 집으로 삼아 살아갑니다. 파리떼들은 구름같이 이 모노리스에 모여듭니다.

너글의 챔피언들은 그들이 쓰러트린 적의 시체를 모노리스 아래 던져넣어 모노리스에 존중을 표하고,

시체가 썩고 곰팡이가 뒤덮도록 내버려둡니다.



Monoliths to Nurgle

The monuments of Nurgle’s Champions always look ancient and

crumbling, regardless of their actual age. Nurgle cares nothing of

appearances, and allows his Monoliths to succumb to the effects of time,

weather, and the defilement by others. His Monoliths are typically crafted

from shale or slate of dull grey, and are covered in moss, lichen, mould, and

slime. Its nooks and crannies serve as the home for disgusting snakes, toads,

lizards, slugs, and snails. Clouds of flies swarm about these landmarks. The

Champions of Nurgle show their respects by throwing the bodies of their

fallen foes at the base of these monoliths, allowing their corpses to rot and

moulder in the growing mounds of refuse surrounding them.


슬라네쉬를 위한 모노리스

슬라네쉬에게 바쳐진 이 부풀어오른 모노리스는 아름다우면서도 동시에 보기 끔찍하며,

반짝이는 돌들이 하늘로 치솟은 모양입니다. 언제나 재료 중에서도 가장 좋은 것들로

조각되며-가장 귀한 것은 이국적인 분홍과 자주색의 수정들이나 빛나는 보석들입니다.

소문에 따르면 큰 모노리스는 단 하나의, 거대한 보석으로 조각되었다고 하지만 보기는

힘듭니다. 이 기념물에는 반드시 악마와 동물, 인간들이 신성모독적인 자세로 조각되어 있습니다.

이 이미지들은 묘한 매력과 반감을 동시에 불러일으키며, 유혹적인 힘과 기쁨, 황홀한 음악, 과잉된

축제, 다양한 카오스의 유혹을 불러오곤 합니다.

조각된 오래전 죽은 시인들의 글은 약한 마음을 지닌 이들을 최면에 걸고 망상에 홀리게 하며,

문장을 즐기게 만들고는, 생각의 흐름을 형상화하기를 되풀이하여 이 돌이 불러일으키는

쾌락과 고통의 꿈 속에 영원히 잠기게 만듭니다.


Monoliths to Slaanesh

The tumescent Monoliths dedicated to Slaanesh are both beautiful and

terrifying to behold, and often appear as glistening rocks thrusting into

the sky. They are always crafted from the finest of materials—the most

treasured being exotic crystalline rocks with pink or purple streaks and

glittering veins of quartz. Rumours abound of large Monoliths crafted

from a single, huge gemstone, but they are rarely seen. These monuments

are inevitably carved with figures of Daemons, animals, and Humans

in unlikely and blasphemous positions. These images are beguiling and

repulsive at the same time, conjuring up images of seductive power

and pleasure, entrancing music, excessive feasts, and other temptations

of Chaos. Graven with verse from long-dead poets, these words can

mesmerise and delude the weak-minded, forcing them to relish the careful

turn of phrase, to inspect the gentle flow of thought to form and back

again, and to spend eternity mulling on the dreams of pleasure and pain

evoked by the throbbing stone.


젠취를 위한 모노리스

젠취에게 바쳐지는 모노리스는 하나도 같은 모양이 없으며, 지속적으로 똑같이 묘사하기는 거의

불가능합니다. 어떤 것들은 검은 흑요석이나 빛나는 대리석 같은 이국적인 돌로 만들지만,

같은 재료를 두번 사용하지는 않습니다. 게다가 이 모노리스들은 젠취와 그의 추종자에게 걸맞게

변화하며 시간을 뛰어넘기도 합니다. 모노리스에 대한 이야기에선 이들이 살아있는 불이나, 폭포수,

단단한 연기기둥이라고도 합니다. 몇개는 심지어 땅에 붙어있지 않고, 하늘을 낮게 떠다니며 연못이나

강의 표면 위에 살며시 내려앉기도 합니다.



Monoliths to Tzeentch

No two Monoliths dedicated to Tzeentch are alike, and trying to describe

them with any consistency is almost impossible. Some may be made from

exotic stone like black obsidian or glowing marble, although almost any

other substance may be used. Even then, these Monoliths change and

warp over the years to suit the whims of Tzeentch and his followers. Tales

persist of Monoliths formed in living fire, cascades of water, or columns of

solid smoke. A few are even unmoored from the land, floating low in the

sky, or inexplicably sitting on the surface of a lake or river.
