Maloghurst returned Horus's smile. 'Magnus will not leave Prospero alive.'

러스가 마그누스가 죽는 것이야말로 제국을 위한 최선의 방법이라고 스스로 결론 지은 반면에, 발도르는 진홍왕을 산 채로 데려오라는 황제의 명령에서 벗어나려 하지 않을 것이었다.

For where Russ had concluded that to best serve the Imperium Magnus must die, Valdor would not deviate from the Emperor’s orders to take the Crimson King alive.

ADB: 그리고 한편, 그는 황제로부터 직접 명령을 받았지요. 반에서 그다지 머리가 좋지 않은 학생이었던 러스는 호루스에게 물어보았고, 호루스가 그에게 무엇이 최선일지에 대해 설득해주자 그는 파괴를 일으켰지요. 호루스는 러스에게 잘못된 것을 하도록 설득함으로써 충성파 사이에서 분열을 야기하고 자신의 목표, 즉 헤러시를 위한 혼란을 일으키려 한 것이죠. 

And on the other he has direct orders from Emps to apprehend. Russ being the not particularly bright student in the classroom gets to talk to Horus who reaffirms him to do whats best and cause destruction. Horus only does this so he can cause mayhem to further his own goals that is the Heresy by causing disruption in the loyalist and doing that deceives Russ by reassuring him to do the wrong thing.

러스는 웃었고, 거칠게 짖는 소리와 함께 더 많은 침이 발도르의 면갑에 튀었다. "아직도 그런 것에 집착하나? 하!" 그는 돌아서서는 자신의 대검을 가볍게 휘둘렀다. "나는 이 행성을 보자마자 나와 놈이 서로 맞서게 될 걸 알았네. 난 누구를 생포하려고 여기에 온 게 아닐세, 콘스탄틴. 만약 내 아버지가 진정으로 그런 걸 원하셨다면 애초에 나를 보내진 않았을 거라고."

"그대 혼자서만 이곳에 보내진게 아니오, 러스 공."

러스가 교활한 미소를 지으며 발도르를 바라보았다.

"그래, 그렇다는 것이지?"

"자네는 교도권(Magisterium)을 가지고 있고 그것에 매달려있지." 러스가 이번에는 얼음장처럼 차갑게 웃으며 말했다.

러스는 인간의 몸에 구속된 폭풍마냥 발도르 주위에서 서성였다.

"나에게 법률을 들이댈 생각은 하지 말게나. 자네는 내 아버지의 뜻을 표방하지만 그분의 자손이 아니지 않나, 그렇지? 아버지께서는 필요없다면 즉시 자네를 한켠으로 치웠을것이야. 우리, 그러니까 아버지와 내 형제들은 가족이거든." 러스는 자신의 말에 웃긴듯이 호탕하게 웃었다.

"자네는 이해하지 못하겠지만 밀이야."

발도르는 진정으로 아무렇지 않은듯 러스에게 답하지 않았다.

"그대의 말에는 수많은 오류가 있소만, 어디서부터 시작해야 할지 모르겠구려." 발도르가 마침내 입을 열었다.

"저 자... 제 정신이 맞긴 한겁니까?" 사모너스가 발도르에게 질문했다.

발도르는 곧바로 대답하지 않고 늑대들이 함성과 고함을 지르며 전장으로 뛰어가는 모습을 지켜보았다. 화려하게 장식된 오라마이트와 카텔리안 헬멧 너머의 그의 생각을 가늠하기는 불가능했다.

"프라이마크놈들." 발도르가 만인대의 캡틴 제너럴로서 할수 있는 최대의 저주인마냥 말을 내뱉었다.

"저 자는 자기가 이해하지도 못하는 일을 터뜨렸다." 발도르가 멀리 있는 러스를 응시하며 천천히 신중하게 말했다. "그보다 전에 마그누스가 그랬던 것처럼. 놈들 모두에게 대체 무슨 문제가 있는 거지? 대체 어쩌다 저런 괴물같은 자만심을 품게 된 것이냔 말이냐?"


Valdor remained unmoved. ‘Even now, I would see him taken to Terra, if it could be done. I would wish to know why.’

Russ laughed, a coarse bark that sent more spittle flying into Valdor’s faceplate. ‘You’re still clinging to that? Ha!’ He turned away, swinging his greatblade casually. ‘I’ve known since I first saw this world that we would face one another. I did not come here for prisoners, Constantin. If my Father had truly wished for such, He would not have sent me.’

‘You were not sent alone, Lord Russ.’

Russ glanced back at Valdor, a sly smile on his fanged face. ‘Oh, that’s it, is it?’ He laughed again, but it was an ice-cold sound. ‘You have the power of Magisterium, and wish to cling to it.’ Russ paced back to him again. He was always moving, restless, like a tempest bound up inside the sham-form of a man. ‘Don’t try to invoke the Lex with me. You claim to speak for my Father, but you’re not His blood, are you? Not like we are. That’s what really gets you, isn’t it? You’re His instruments. He’d toss you aside in an instant if He cared to. We, though. We. We’re family.’ Russ gave out a great belly-laugh then, amused by the idea. ‘You’ll never understand that.’

Valdor didn’t reply for an instant, seemingly genuinely nonplussed.

‘There are so many errors there,’ he said eventually, ‘I do not even know where to start.’

‘Is he… in his right mind, lord?’ he ventured, looking up at Valdor enquiringly.

Valdor didn’t respond immediately. He watched the Wolves race into battle, whooping and hollering. It was impossible to gauge what he thought behind that ornate mask of auramite and carnelian.

‘Primarchs,’ he said finally, a single, withering expletive that sounded as close to a curse as the captain-general of the Ten Thousand would ever get.

‘He has unleashed something he does not understand,’ Valdor said, staring at the distant Russ and speaking slowly and deliberately. ‘Just as Magnus did before him. What is it with them all? Where did they get this monstrous pride?’
