Former Lawmaker Kim Moo-sung Sent to Prosecution for Violation of Anti-Graft Law Involving 'Fake Fisherman Rental Car'
Asia Economy Reporter Jeong Dong-hoon] Kim Moo-sung, Honorary Chairman of the People Power Party (former Liberty Korea Party lawmaker), has been part ial ly charged by the police and sent to the prosecution in connection with allegations that he received a rental car from a 'fake fisheries businessman' named Kim.
On the 16th, according to the police, the Violent Crime Investigation Unit of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency announced that it judged some charges against former lawmaker Kim, who is accused of violating the Improper Solicitation and Graft Act (Anti-Graft Act), to be va lid and sent the case to the prosecution.
The charge of violating the Anti-Graft Act related to one vehicle provided to former lawmaker Kim by Mr. Kim was recognized. It is known that the period during which the vehicle was used free of charge was several months. Initially, former lawmaker Kim was also accused of violating the Political Funds Act and bribery under the Special Criminal Act, but these charges were dismissed due to lack of evidence.
Earlier, former lawmaker Kim was summoned and investigated by the police around the 25th of last month on suspicion of violating the Anti-Graft Act. He is accused of receiving and using a rental car from Mr. Kim ring his tenure as an active member of the National Ass embly.
Fisheries businessman Mr. Kim was arrested and indicted on charges of embezzling about 11.6 billion won from seven people, including Kim’s elder brother, under the pretense of investment from June 2018 to January this year (fraud under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Economic Crimes). He was sentenced to eight years in prison in the first trial last month. Kim’s elder brother was defrauded of about 8.64 billion won by Mr. Kim.
