FX has renewed its Middle East-set drama “Tyrant” for a 10-episode third season, Variety has learned.

The sophomore season of the political thriller, which wrapped in September, received a 13-episode order, although only 12 were made. The first season also consisted of 10 episodes.

Executive produced by showrunner Howard Gordon — along with Glenn Gordon Caron, Chris Keyser, David Fury, Gideon Raff, Avi Nir and Hugh Fitzpatrick. The series hails from Fox 21 Television Studios and FX Productions.

“’Tyrant’s’ second season took the show to a new level thanks to the skill and direction of Howard, Chris and Glenn and their creative team, the exceptional cast and a story steeped in family, loyalty and intrigue,” said Eric Schrier, who made the announcement with Nick Grad, his fellow president of original programming for FX Networks and FX Productions. “We look forward to the next chapter and a sensational third season of ‘Tyrant.’”

“Tyrant’s” third season will air in 2016.
