Father Ariandel can use fire. And in painted world of ariandel, there are farron follwers. So, we can guess about correlation of ariandel and farron. And painted world is the place that abandoned creatures gather. Ariandel and friede is freind now, too. So according to those, we can guess Ariandel may hostile to abyss watchers now too.

First, farron follwers, the monsters in painted world, don't have to hold special torch, but they are holding follwer's torch. Follower's torch's deion says,

So we can draw conclusion that Farron's Undead Legion isn't reluctant group. So the opinion that follwers are just surviving troops can be dismissed.

So, we can guess that Farron followers' enemy is abyss' daughter Friede, and they are trying to save Ariandel from her.

Based on 2nd hypothesis, we can guess that Ariandel, the elite priest agent of farron, traced Friede to subdue abyss and reached to painted world, but he got caught up in the Friede's trick and brainwashed, so he is being tortured that constrain fire and fire bowl, which is effective to fighting against abyss. But ariandel was brainwashed firmly, so farron follwers may hostile to Ariandel.

Sister Friede desperately hide Fatrid and encourage ashen one to go back with bribe ring. We can feel a little discomfort from the dialog "I am Friede. I have long stood beside our blessed Father", all the villagers of painted world are roaming freely or evacuating from enemy. But Fatrid doesn't look like to villager crows. And he is only person who jailed in the painted world. He looks like hollow, too. But Friede just make a brief comment as "blessed father" doesn't have problem.

So, why Friede doesn't kill Fatrid?

Death is meaninglwss to Farron's Undead Legion. So, killing Fatrid is just a makeshift. If friede kills Fatrid, followers come to chapel and their corpses and souls will fill the chapel. And they will give a great power to the Farron warrior. And Fatrid has great soul, so we can guess Fatrid is boundary target of Friede so fride embraced him.

So why Hen Fatrid forced to calm down the fire bowl with his blood? As you can see in the image above, what gathers dead Farron's Undead Legion's power is their blood, in other word, blood of the wolf. Farron's Undead Legion can control fire on their sword, and this fire is effective to fight against abyss. Fatrid has great soul so he is big, and he may be able to control fire with his blood without any other Farron's Undead Legion members.

So we can guess that Fatrid forced to hit him with whip that he took to interrogate Friede and bleed to calm down the fire bowl forever. But Fatrid didn't put off the fire. It can be thought that he was just pretending to put off fire because the fire can be the great power to Farron's Undead Legion members who will find him. Fatrid didn't abandon honor and waited his friends while he brainwashed. And ashen one, the honorable knight who went through the Farron's Undead Legion's joining ceremony came, Fatrid looks Friede dying and achieve his goal and became hollow. Ashen one kills hollow Fatrid to give him rest and honor as he will do for Slave Knight Gael.
