One guy devised a brilliant idea that he would pretend to be crazy by volunteering to fly more while others were trying to find all the excuses in the world.
If he flied missions stacking an incredible numbers, the superiors would apparently get suspicious of his sanity because they were well aware of the ordinary pilots’ mindset so well. As a result, the flight commander might ground him fearing that he might do more harm than good by flying so often being totally out of mind. That could be a brilliant idea as long as he remained in one piece without
getting shot down by enemy batteries or fighters before the commander recognized the gravity of the situation and pull him out of the cockpit. Because he volunteered more missions, he had to risk his life more often, and if he did not attempt that scheme, he would not be found mentally deranged. Accordingly, he could not get a chance to be released from the flight duty.
