I have nothing to say, I am saying it, and that is poetry. 말할 게 없다고 말한다 그러면 그것이 시다.


If something is boring after two minutes, try it for four. If still boring, then eight. Then sixteen. Then thirty-two. Eventually one discovers that it is not boring at all. 2분 뒤에 지루하다면, 4분을 해보라. 그래도 지루하다면, 8분을. 다음은 16분을. 다음은 32분을. 결국 전혀 지루하지 않다고 깨닫는다.


There is no such thing as an empty space or an empty time. There is always something to see, something to hear. In fact, try as we may to make a silence, we cannot. 빈 공간 혹은 빈 시간 같은 것은 없다. 항상 볼 것이 있고 들을 것이 있다. 사실 우리가 침묵을 만들려고 할지 몰라도, 우리는 할 수 없다.


It is better to make a piece of music than to perform one, better to perform one than to listen to one, better to listen to one than to misuse it as a means of distraction, entertainment, or acquisition of 'culture.' 문화를 오락 연예 구입 수단으로 오용하기보다는 듣는 게 좋고 듣기보다는 실행하는 게 좋고 실행하기보다는 음악을 만드는 게 좋다.


I can't understand why people are frightened of new ideas. I'm frightened of the old ones. 나는 사람들이 왜 새로운 생각에 겁먹는지 알 수 없다. 나는 오래된 생각에 겁먹는데.


There is poetry as soon as we realize that we possess nothing. 우리가 아무 것도 가지고 있지 않다고 깨닫자마자 거기 시가 있다.

 

The highest purpose is to have no purpose at all. This puts one in accord with nature, in her manner of operation. 가장 높은 목적은 아무 목적도 없는 것이다. 이것이 자연 운용 방식 안에서 자연과 일치하기인 것이다
