I've seen some posts lately of people taking their birds outside and receiving tons of upvotes and positive comments admiring the idea. I'm here to tell anyone who will listen that taking your small to mid-sized parrot outside in the wild for any amount of time is a TERRIBLE idea. Our pets have not learned to watch out for predators, have not learned to use the environment to blend in and hide, and are completely reliant on us as their owners to protect them. I don't care how careful you think are being, you will NOT spot a hawk or falcon as it descends on your bird and swoops away with it before you can react or even realize what's going on.

It's a brutal world out there for birds. I realize a lot of people might not realize this, but as an avid birder, I FREQUENTLY observe birds of prey predating on other birds. It's a bit of a guilty pleasure having bird feeders because just by nature of feeding birds, I realize that my backyard becomes a feeding ground for predators.

If you are taking your bird outside, you are taking a huge risk to their life, and I can't imagine anyone who loves their parrot taking that risk if they understood how significant it is. Please don't let recent social media posts motivate you into taking your small to medium sized bird outside. It's just so risky and not worth the social media cred.
