As an undergrad, I loved algorithms. It was my favorite class. I did pretty well in programming contests (ACM world finalist) which are basically 80% algorithms and 20% coding. And then I got to 구글, and I was thrown onto a ranking/prediction task, and I flailed very badly at first until my project failed.
