챈들러의 단편과 에세이

 

챈들러가 장편을 쓰기 전 <블랙 마스크> 등의 펄프 매거진에 발표했던 단편 목록을 소개한다. 이 단편들 가운데에는 본래 필립 말로가 아닌 말로리나 카마디 등의 탐정들이 나왔었는데 나중에 단편집으로 모으면서 필립 말로로 바뀐 경우도 있다. 단편들은 나중에 장편에 사용되기도 했고 라디오 드라마와 TV 드라마화되기도 했다. 무라카미 하루키의 단편 「사우스베이 스트리트」는 챈들러의 단편에 바치는 헌사라고 한다.
