영문과에서도 이 사람 작품은 필수로 배우고 영문학에서 가장 중요한 시인 중 하나로 꼽히는 분인데 안타깝게도 대중적으로는 인지도가 많이 낮은거 같음


'누구를 위하여 종은 울리나'라는 구절이 나온 존 던의 휴머니즘적 시 'No man is an island' 보고 가자.


No man is an island,

Entire of itself;

Every man is a piece of the continent, 

A part of the main.

If a clod be washed away by the sea,

Europe is the less.

As well as if a promontory were;

As well as if a manor of thy friend's

Or of thine own were.

Any man's death diminishes me,

Because I am involved in mankind.
