She was very pretty: exceedingly pretty. With a dimpled, surprised-looking, capital face; a ripe little mouth, that seemed made to be kissed—as no doubt it was; all kinds of good little dots about her chin, that melted into one another when she laughed; and the sunniest pair of eyes you ever saw in any little creature’s head. Altogether she was what you would have called provoking, you know; but satisfactory, too. Oh, perfectly satisfactory.


조카며느리는 아주 예뻤다. 대단한 미인이었다. 옴폭 팬 보조개와 놀란 듯한 표정의 아리따운 얼굴, 입 맞추고 싶도록 탐스러운 작은 입술과 웃을 때면 한자리에 모여드는 턱 주위의 작은 점들, 그리고 세상의 다른 어떤 창조물에게서도 구할 수 없는 태양처럼 밝게 빛나는 눈동자, 이 모두가 한데 어우러져 도발적이고도 더할 나위 없이 흐뭇한 감상을 주었다.
