I've been flip flopping between Windows and linux (been a fan of mint) for a few years now and the only reason I always went back to windows was the better compatibility for games.

But because of the steam deck that landscape has changed drastically since Valve is actively pumping money into proton/wine so I'm back on linux. It helps that I'm a developer myself and can do custom stuff while learning new ways to do things.

Windows has just become bloatware and i just can't stand it won't let you opt out of analytics or just forces you into constant updates.

Its because you are running a Windows game on Linux. Wine is hell to use. But Steam OS isn't. Modding a native game shouldn't be different to how you do it on Windows, like PrismLauncher for Minecraft.

What I want to say is that it depends on what you do with it. Using the Steam Deck is definetly is easier than having a Windows PC and having the user install all drivers and programs by himself through an Microsoft Edge Browser where you need to trust the .exe everytime.

I also see that the guides in the internet are very terminal friendly, meaning that there are easier ways to do stuff with the GUI but its just easier for them to show a line of text versus a big picture of how to do something. Maybe because there are different Desktops and also GUI's change too often and are unreliable for a permanent tutorial. Like in Windows 7,10 and 11 the location of system settings change over time very often.
