I'm a barista at Starbucks; since we get a pound of free coffee every week, it's been my goal to try each blend that they offer. In my opinion, Pike is an average coffee and probably not the best to base your opinion on. Veranda is a blonde roast and, while I understand that there are some people that like lighter-roaster coffee, I think it's nasty as hell and wouldn't touch it with a 10 foot pole. I haven't tried the Italian roast, but even though it's dark I've heard from other baristas that it's also not that great.

If you're looking to try some good Starbucks coffee, I'd say your best bet would be (for dark roasts) the Christmas Blend (which is really, really good this year- the aged Sumatra incorporated in it really gives it a unique flavor), French Roast (if you like your coffee /really/ dark), and Sumatra. The best medium roasts by far are Chiapas and Guatemala. They go quick, though, so definitely pick some up as soon as you find some.

The reserve blends are definitely expensive (half a pound for what a full pound of the regular stuff costs) and only sold at particular stores, but if you can find some I'd definitely say try it; it's worth it.

And like I said, just stay away from blonde.

요약:

- Pike

- Italian roast

Christmas Blend, French Roast, Sumatra
