When the LORD thy God shall bring thee into the land whither thou goest to possess it, and hath cast out many nations before thee, the Hittites, and the Girgashites, and the Amorites, and the Canaanites, and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites, seven nations greater and mightier than thou;
And when the LORD thy God shall deliver them before thee; thou shalt smite them, and utterly destroy them; thou shalt make no covenant with them, nor shew mercy unto them:
Neither shalt thou make marriages with them; thy daughter thou shalt not give unto his son, nor his daughter shalt thou take unto thy son.
For they will turn away thy son from following me, that they may serve other gods: so will the anger of the LORD be kindled against you, and destroy thee suddenly.
But thus shall ye deal with them; ye shall destroy their altars, and break down their images, and cut down their groves, and burn their graven images with fire.
For thou art an holy people unto the LORD thy God: the LORD thy God hath chosen thee to be a special people unto himself, above all people that are upon the face of the earth.
Deuteronomy 7:1~6
주 너의 하나님께서 네가 가서 차지할 땅으로 너를 인도하시고 네 앞에서 여러 민족들, 곧 너보다 더 크고 강한 일곱 민족인 힛인들과 기르가스인들과 아모리인들과 카나안인들과 프리스인들과 히위인들과 여부스인들을 쫓아내실 때,
주 너의 하나님께서 네 앞에 그들을 넘겨주실 때, 너는 그들을 쳐부수고 완전히 진멸시키며, 너는 그들과 어떤 언약도 하지 말고 어떤 자비도 보이지 말지니라.
너는 그들과 혼인도 하지 말지니, 너는 네 딸을 그의 아들에게 주지도 말 것이요 그의 딸을 네 아들에게 주지도 말지니라.
이는 그들이 네 아들로 나를 따르는 데서 돌이키게 하여 그들이 다른 신들을 섬길까 함이요 그리하여 주의 진노가 너에게 일어나서 갑자기 너를 멸하실까 함이라.
오직 너희가 그들에게 행할 것은 이러하니, 그들의 제단들을 파괴하고 그들의 형상들을 부수고 그들의 아세라들을 찍어 내고 그들의 새긴 형상들을 불로 태울지니라.
이는 네가 주 너의 하나님께 거룩한 백성임이니, 주 너의 하나님께서 땅 위에 있는 모든 백성 위에 너를 택하시어 자신의 특별한 백성이 되게 하셨음이라.
