영국 해군의 방공구축함, Type 45 구축함을 대체하는 사업인 Type 83 구축함이 내년에 개념 단계에 들어갈 것이라고함.

영국의 국무장관 (국방부 조달 장관)인 Jeremy Quin이 Type 83의 개념 및 평가 단계가 언제 시작할건지에 대한 질문에 다음과 같이 대답함.

"On current plans, Navy Command intends to formally commence the concept phase for Type 83 in early 2022 with the assessment phase to follow in due course.”

"현재 계획에 따르면 해군은 Type 83 개념 단계를 2022년 초에 공식적으로 개시하고 적절한 절차에 따라 평가 단계를 밟을 계획이다."

또한 BAE Systems Maritime and Land UK의 Group Managing Director인 Glynn Phillips도 회의에서 다음과 같이 말함.

“In terms of starting conceptual options early, we are, along with Navy and Defence, already looking at concept designs for the replacement of the Astute programme. The Navy are going through the concept designs for the Type 83, which will ultimately replace the Type 45.”

"개념적 옵션을 조기에 시작하는 측면에서, 우리는 해군과 국방부함께 이미 아스튜트급 잠수함을 대체하기 위한 개념 설계를 검토하고 있다. 해군은 궁극적으로 Type 45을 대체할 Type 83 컨셉트 디자인을 검토하고 있다."

또한 Jeremy Quin은 의회의 질문에 대해 다음과 같이 답함.

“The Type 83 will replace our Type 45 destroyers when they go out of service in the late 2030s. We anticipate the concept phase for Type 83 to begin in the next years with the assessment phase following.”

"Type 83은 2030년대 말에 퇴역하는 Type 45 구축함을 대체할 것이다. 우리는 Type 83의 개념 단계가 다음 평가 단계와 함께 다음 해에 시작될 것으로 예상한다."

Type 45 구축함 초도함인 'D32 HMS Daring'이 2009년 7월 23일 취역했으므로, 어쨌든 Type 45 구축함은 함령 약 30년정도 채운후 퇴역할 예정인 것으로 확정이 됨.
