WASHINGTON (AP) — Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's dismissal of senior officials is casting an inconvenient light on an issue that the Biden administration has largely ignored since the outbreak of war with Russia: Ukraine's history of rampant corruption and shaky governance.

As it presses ahead with providing tens of billions of dollars in military, economic and direct financial support aid to Ukraine and encourages its allies to do the same, the Biden administration is now once again grappling with longstanding worries about Ukraine's suitability as a recipient of massive infusions of American aid.

워싱턴 (AP통신) — 볼로디미르 젤렌스키 우크라이나 대통령의 고위 관리 해임은 바이든 행정부가 러시아와의 전쟁 발발 이후 크게 무시해 온 문제인 우크라이나의 만연한 부정부패와 불안정한 통치의 역사에 대해 불편한 빛을 드러내고 있다.

우크라이나에 수십억 달러의 군사적, 경제적, 직접적인 재정 지원을 제공하는 것을 추진하고 동맹국들도 같은 일을 하도록 독려하면서 바이든 행정부는 이제 다시 한 번 우크라이나가 대규모 보조금 수령자로서의 적합성에 대한 오랜 우려와 씨름하고 있다.

키이우 주재 미국 대사관은 2021년 10월 9일 "EU와 미국은 고위급 부패 근절의 핵심 기관인 반부패 전문 검찰청장 선출이 설명할 수 없고 부당하게 지연된 데 대해 크게 실망하고 있다"고 밝혔다.
