Japan’s Upgraded F-15J To Get EPAWSS

Japan appears to be equipping its upgraded F-15J/DJ with the BAE Systems’ AN/ALQ-250 Eagle Passive Active Warning Survivability System(EPAWSS) after it was almost put on the chopping block for driving up the cost of the F-15 Japan Super Interceptor (JSI) program.


The AN/ALQ-250 will be one of the most important systems fielded on the US Airforce's F-15 EX (and F-15 E). An integrated all-digital system leveraging Gallium Nitride (GaN), it provides offensive and defensive digital EW capabilities including jamming and geolocation.


BAE recently received a contract from Boeing to produce additional EPAWSS for USAF F-15Es and F-15EXs. The LRIP 2 contract will initiate production of additional EPAWSS systems and spares. Boeing will continue to install EPAWSS on new F-15EXs and existing F-15Es.
