미국 일각 “한국 ‘핵무장’ 스스로 결정해야…미국 핵우산 신뢰도 떨어져”북한 핵 위협이 고조되면서 한국 일각에서 자체 핵무장이 필요하다는 주장이 나오고 있습니다. 워싱턴에서는 아직 이런 주장에 대한 반대가 압도적이지만 한국의 핵 보유가 필요하다는 목소리도 점차 늘고 있습니다.www.voakorea.com


 “It would make sense for South Korea to think very seriously about whether it wanted to develop its own nuclear weapons. And in my view, that decision should be up to South Korea, not to America, that ultimately, only South Korea can decide what's necessary for its own defense. And while the US might not like that decision, it certainly should not stand in the way of a longtime ally, who sees the necessity of matching North Korea.”


밴도우 연구원은 따라서 이런 상황을 고려할 때 한국이 직접 핵무기를 개발할지 심각하게 고민해보는 게 타당하며, 한국의 방어를 위한 결정은 궁극적으로 미국이 아닌 한국 스스로 내려야 한다고 주장했습니다.


또한 미국은 그 결정이 못마땅하더라도 북한에 맞서야 할 필요성을 느끼는 오랜 동맹의 앞길을 막아선 안 된다고 덧붙였습니다.
