ROK Marines vs US Marines

대한민국 해병대 vs 미 해병대

 

A US Marine group comes over to S. Korea to train with ROK Marine forces. Its cold (its February), and they are up north by CP Casey on a ROK Marine base

미 해병대 부대가 한국 해병대와의 연합훈련을 위해 한국에 도착했어. 날씨는 매우 추웠고(2월이었거든), 위치는 북쪽에 있는 캠프 케이시 내 대한민국 해병대 기지였어.

 

The US Marines come in ready to one up the ROKs, however for each task the US Marines did the ROKs would do it bigger, better, and faster. If they did a 12 mile ruck the ROKs would do a 15 mile ruck. And for several days it just became a dick measuring contest between the two commands.

미 해병대원들은 자신들이 한국 해병대보다 한 수 위임을 보여줄 생각이었어. 근데 미 해병대가 어떤 과제를 해내면. 한국 해병대는 그걸 더 빨리, 더 크게, 더 잘 해냈지. 미 해병대가 20km 행군을 했다면, 한국 해병대는 24km 행군을 했어. 그렇게 며칠 동안 두 해병대 간의 자존심 대결은 계속되었어.

Then one early morning as everyone is in formation the ROK Marine Sgt Major goes to the Marine Sgt Major and says "Watch this"

그러다 한 아침 점호때 한국 해병대 상사가 미 해병대 상사에게 다가가서 이렇게 말했어. “보여줄게 있습니다.”

 

The Sgt Major orders the ROK Marines to go down something, they then run down to a slightly frozen pond as they stand in formation. The ROK Marine yells another order and all the ROK marines strip down. The Sgt Major yells again and they began running in place...

상사는 한국 해병대원들에게 어디론가 내려가라고 했어. 그들은 살짝 얼어붙은 연못 앞으로 뛰어가서 대열을 갖췄어. 상사는 또다른 명령을 내렸고, 한국 해병대원들은 다들 옷을 벗기 시작햇어. 상사가 또 소리 지르자 다들 제자리에서 뛰기 시작했지.

 

The US Marines are confused, its unusual to take off your clothes in formation.

미 해병대원들은 다들 어리둥절했지, 점호 중에 탈의하는 일은 거의 없으니까.

 

And then the final order is given. The entire formation runs into the frozen pond they turn to face the marines and proceed chanting and running in place as they eye fuck the US Marines who are standing there in amazement. After awhile (a good 10 minutes) the Sgt Major orders his soldiers out of the frozen pond and back into formation with the Americans.

곧 상사는 마지막 명령을 내렸어. 해병대원 전원이 얼어붙은 연못 속으로 뛰어들어간다음, 뒤돌아서 미 해병대원들을 마주보고 구호를 외치며 제자리 뜀걸음을 하기 시작했어. 그러면서 놀란 미 해병대원들 보란듯이 쳐다봤지. 한참 지나서 (한 10분 정도) 상사는 다시 명령을 내렸고, 한국 해병대원들은 연못에서 나와 다시 미국인들과 대열을 맞췄어.

 

The ROK Sgt Major goes over to the US Marine Sgt Major and says "We are ready for the day"

한국 해병대 상사는 다시 미 해병대 상사에게 다가가서 말했지 “우린 이제 하루를 시작할 준비가 되었습니다.”

 

For the rest of the exercise the US Marines have nothing but absolute respect for those ROK Marines.

남은 연합훈련 기간 내내 미 해병대는 한국 해병대를 전적으로 리스펙트했지.
