[일반] 미군 훈련소 썰 3가지

1) A bit less poignant, but my uncle loves to tell the story of when he was in the navy boot camp (I can't remember what the navy calls it) and one of the recruits was having a real hard time of it. He was terribly homesick and my uncle says the guy was barely holding back the tears when the drill instructor asked him if he wanted to call his mommy. The guy nodded so the drill instructor took him out in the rain and had him yell MOMMY! for a few minutes.

이건 살짝 덜 감동적이지만, 우리 삼촌이 항상 푸는 썰이 있어.

본인이 해군 훈련소에 있었을때, 힘든 시기를 보내던 어떤 훈련병이 겪었던 일이야.

그 훈련병은 향수병을 심하게 앓고 있었고, 교관이 훈련병한테 엄마한테 전화하고 싶냐고 물어봤을 때 거의 울기 직전이었대.

훈련병은 고개를 끄덕였고, 교관은 훈련병을 비 내리는 바깥으로 데리고 나가서 몇분 동안 “엄마!”라고 소리 지르게 했어.

 

2) Boot camp, MCRD San Diego: had a kid with glasses, very young, did NOT look like Marine material. He kept glancing up at airplanes overhead during drill. DI noticed and asked him what he was looking at. Kid replies “airplanes drill instructor.” DI says, “those planes are trying to invade, and only you can stop them. I want to hear you war cry at every plane until it leaves this depot.”

Remainder of phase I of boot camp consisted of this kid screaming at every plane overhead.

샌디에고 해병대 훈련소: 매우 어리고, 안경 쓴 애가 하나 있었어. 해병대랑 어울리지 않아보였지.

훈련 동안 종종 머리 위로 지나다니는 비행기들을 쳐다보더라고. 교관은 이를 눈치챘고, 뭐하고 있는지 물어봤어.

그 애는 말했지 “비행기 보고 있습니다 교관님”.

교관이 말하길 “저 비행기들이 우릴 침략하려한다, 그리고 너만이 저들을 막을 수 있어. 저 비행기들 전부 이 훈련소를 떠날때까지 네 전투 함성을 질러라”.

1단계 훈련 내내 걔는 비행기가 나타날때마다 소리를 질러야했어.

 

3) While in basic we had a female that loved to smile. She was just a happy person in general. Well my TI (Training instructor) came in, and she caught the female trainee smiling. TI didn’t like smiling. She walked up to the female trainee and yelled, “Wipe that smile off your face!” Female trainee stopped smiling. The TI continued to yell, “No! Literally wipe the smile off your face with your hand!” Trainee does so. “Now throw it on the ground!” Trainee follows orders. “Now stomp on it and scream ‘die, smile die!’ As loud as you can!” The female trainee stood there for a second before following through. Her tiny little voice cracks as she yelled “die, smile die!” And I will say it took everything I had not to bust out laughing.

훈련소에 있었을 때, 훈련병들 중에 항상 웃는 여자가 하나 있었어. 그냥 항상 밝은 사람이었던 것 같아.

하루는 우리 교관이 들어오더니, 그 훈련병이 웃고 있는걸 포착했지. 교관은 웃는걸 좋아하지 않았어.

교관은 훈련병한테 다가가서, “웃음기 빼라!”라고 소리쳤어. 훈련병은 바로 표정을 고쳤어.

하지만 그 교관은 계속 소리 질렀지. “아니! 니 손으로 니 얼굴에서 웃음기 빼라고!”

훈련병은 시키는대로 했어.

“이제 땅에다 집어던져!” 교관은 명령했고, 훈련병은 또 시키는대로 했어.

“발로 밟으면서 최대한 크게 ‘죽어라 웃음, 죽어!’라고 소리 질러!”가 마지막 명령이었어.

훈련병은 잠시 멈칫하더니, 충실히 명령을 따랐지.

갸냘픈 목소리로 삑사리 나면서 “죽어라 웃음, 죽어!”라고 하는데 웃음 참느라 정말 힘들었어.
