My father was drafted into the US Army in the early 1950s. Fortunately, he got sent to Germany instead of Korea. While he was there, he came down with pneumonia and was hospitalized. His family wanted an update on his condition, so they asked his cousin, who I believe was then a state senator in Massachusetts, to help find out. The cousin passed on the request to some high-ranking friends, who passed it on to theirs, until it reached the President's desk. From there, it finally was sent to the hospital. The first my father knew of any of this was when a doctor appeared at his bedside and asked, "Who the hell are you?"

내 아버지는 1950년대 초반에 미 육군으로 징집당했어.

다행히도, 한국 대신 독일로 보내졌지. 독일에서 지내는 동안, 폐렴에 걸려서 입원했어.

아버지 가족은 상태가 어떤지 궁금했기 때문에, 아버지 사촌에게 도움을 청했지.

내가 알기론 그 사촌은 당시에 메사추세츠 상원의원이었어.

그 사촌은 주변 고위직 친구한테 연락을 돌렸고, 그들은 또다시 다른 친구들한테 연락을 했어. 결국 대통령한테까지 다다랐지. 결국 거기서 아버지가 계신 병원으로 연락이 갔어.

이 일에 대해 아버지가 처음 알게 된 건, 한 의사가 아버지 병상 옆에 나타나서 “당신은 대체 누굽니까?”라고 물어봤을 때였어.

Usually it would only be PI, but if a President was involved the H was added.

주로는 “정계 영향력”만 쓰이지만, 대통령이 연관된 이상 “최상위”가 추가되었을거야.
