I was Army, and was the senior NCO (but only an E5) for a maintenance section that support a system that out brigade TOC used for planning and coordinating stuff.

난 육군이었고, 여단 전술작전본부의 작전계획 및 관리 시스템을 관리하는 점검 부서의 선임 부사관이었어. (정작 계급은 병장)

 

I needed to restart this system (cause, you know, computers like to be restarted) so I went to our Battle Captain (who was a Lt. Col for some odd reason) and asked when a good outage time would be. I knew that in our "war game" we were going to launch a significant offensive and wanted to avoid the outage during that time.

하루는 시스템을 재가동시켜야돼서(컴퓨터들 종종 리부팅하는게 좋잖아) 작전장교(특이하게 중령이더라고)를 찾아갔지. 시스템을 언제쯤 중단시키는게 편할지 물어봤어.
워게임 도중에 대규모 공세가 있을거라는건 알아서, 그때를 피해서 시스템을 재가동시키고 싶었거든.

 

Dude looked at my chest, "SGT, you dont have enough stripes to talk to me. Who is your supervisor."

그 새끼는 내 가슴을 쳐다보더니 “병장, 자넨 나와 얘기할 짬이 안돼. 자네 직속상관이 누군가?”이러는거야.

 

"Major such and such."

“소령 누구누구입니다”

 

"Go address him."

“걔한테 가서 따져”

 

So I went to my boss, and he laughed and laughed.

내 상관인 소령 누구누구에게 가서 말씀드리니 엄청 웃으시더라고.

 

"Yeah SGT A, that guys is a d***. Pick the most inconvenient time to do your restart and maitenance. I'll back you up."

“그새끼 존나 띠껍긴 해. 그 놈이 제일 불편해할 시간을 골라서 재시작이랑 점검 돌리도록. 그새끼가 뭐라하면 내가 커버쳐줄게.”

 

"I got you sir."

“예 알겠습니다”

 

I bounced that system when the "major offensive" started. Battle Captain come to the Major and jumped on him, but then the magic happened. A CW5 from brigade appeared and in conjunction with my Major, chased off that Battle Captain.

“대규모 공세”가 시작하자마자 난 시스템을 재가동시켰어. 그 중령새끼가 소령 누구누구한테 와서 지랄하기 시작했는데, 그 순간 마법이 일어났어. 여단 소속 준위가 나타나더니, 소령이랑 함께 그 중령을 쫓아낸거야.

 

That was the day I learned that a CW5 has magic powers.

난 그날 준위에겐 초능력이 있다는 사실을 깨달았어.

 

My system worked great after it was restarted too...

시스템도 재가동 뒤 잘 돌아갔어.


(미국엔 CW1부터 CW5까지 계급 5개, 한국은 준위라는 계급 하나라 그냥 저렇게 씀)
