내 유일한 “실전” 경험

 

I'd prefer to not say what country I'm from, but I do have a pretty good story

어느 나라 출신인지 밝히지 않겠지만, 재밌는 이야기 하나 해줄게.

 

We were in security forces school. Here, our security forces act as backup to civil & national law enforcement, disaster relief, reserve infantry, etc. This story took place during the infantry part of our training.

우린 치안부대 교육을 받고 있었어. 우리나라에선 치안부대가 다양한 역할을 맡아. 경찰의 백업, 재난 구호, 보병 예비군 등등. 이 이야기는 교육의 일부인 보병 훈련때 일어났던 일이야.

 

In this training, we were doing a 4 day 50km total trek into an extremely mountainous region as a security patrol. It was a 45 person training platoon.

이 훈련은 험준한 산악 지역을 4일 간 50km 행군하는 보안 순찰이었어. 우리 훈련소대엔 45명이 있었지.

 

On day 2, we were hiking along a path on a ledge. 1 way was a 400ft plus drop with jagged terrain, the other way was ~200ft straight up. All the sudden, we hear some people yelling someone's name and "is that you?"

두번째 날에, 우린 절벽 위 좁은 길을 따라 등산 중이었어. 한쪽은 톱니같은 지형으로 120m 넘게 떨어지는 낭떠러지였고, 반대쪽은 60m 높이의 수직 절벽이었지.

갑자기, 누군가의 이름을 외치며 “너냐?”는 소리가 들려왔어.

 

Our instructor called out, identified ourselves as army security forces, and told the people to identify themselves. Then small arms fire from the ridge above us. We all jumped over the ledge, had to load (we were required to keep chamber empty and mag out during these trainings), and we got in a firefight with these people. The pucker factor was unbelievably high, my asshole was about to invert. The only thing keeping me from dropping 400+ft was having my boots dug into the side of the hill, while some others were standing on rocks or tree roots.

우리 교관은 육군 치안부대라고 소속을 밝히며, 그들에게 신원을 밝히라고 했지. 그러자 그들은 위쪽 능선에서 소화기를 쏘기 시작했어. 우린 다들 절벽 쪽으로 뛰어내렸고, 실탄을 장전한 다음 그들과 교전을 시작했어. (훈련 중엔 약실 비우고 탄창 뺀 채 다녀야했었어) 진짜 존나게 긴장되더라고, 똥꼬가 뒤집어지는 줄 알았어. 경사면에 군화를 박아넣지 않았다면 120m 넘게 떨어졌을거야. 몇 명은 바위나 나무 뿌리를 밟고 서있어야했어.

 

After about 10 minutes of fighting, they gave up because they ran out of ammo. We got to them give up their weapons by throwing them down to the path we were on before we jumped over,and the weapons consisted of a bolt action hunting rifle, a revolver, a semi-auto pistol, and a knife.

한 10분 간의 교전 후, 탄약이 동나서 그들은 우리에게 항복했어. 원래 길로 다시 올라가기 전에, 그들한테 무기를 아래로 던지라고 했지. 보니까 볼트 액션 사냥용 소총, 리볼버, 반자동권총 1정씩, 그리고 칼 하나더라고.

 

We ended up detaining them. It turned out to be a 4 person poacher group, going for an endangered species of bird. We held them there for 4 hours until forest police arrived and took them, and we also got to get off the training early.

우린 그들을 체포했어. 알고보니 그들은 4인조 밀렵꾼이었어, 멸종위기인 새를 잡으러왔다 했지. 산림 경찰들이 올때까지 4시간 동안 잡아뒀어. 덕분에 훈련도 일찍 종료되었지.
