종조할아버지 이야기 – 제2차 세계대전 독일

 

as usual Sorry for the english. I can also only give a rough Overview.

항상 하는 말이지만, 영어 실력이 부족해서 미안. 그리고 자세한 디테일은 많이 없을거야.

 

How would you escape the third reich when you where a german soldier in ww2 and where would you go? This story is what my great uncle did.

너가 만약 2차 세계대전때 독일군이라면, 제3제국에서 어떻게 탈출해서 어디로 갈래?

이 이야기는 내 종조할아버지가 실제로 겪었던 일이야.

 

My great uncle was a engineer but didn t like the regime in nazi germany (we where not oppresed - more the other way around... Wording from the past : aryan Blood proven back to the 14th century). He was a strong man and spoke what he thought. In this time not so good.

종조할아버지는 엔지니어였지만, 나치 독일의 정권을 좋아하지 않았어.

(우리는 억압받는 편은 아니었어…오히려 그 반대였지. 14세기까지로 거슬러 올라가는 아리안 혈통이었거든)

종조할아버지는 강인한 사람이었고, 가감없이 자신의 생각을 말하는 성격이었어. 당시에는 그리 좋은 행동은 아니었지.

 

He became a testpilot at the eastern front for modified and new planes (I think as Punishment for behaviour but i m not sure). He really don t liked the war and regime so one day he tried to escape but the soviets where also not where he wanted to go. He crash landed on purpose his plane in belarus in no mans land. He tried to avoid both sides and survived by collecting guns from former battlefields and traded with partisans and other parties for food.

종조할아버지는 동부 전선에서 시험비행 조종사가 되었어. (내가 생각하기엔 불손한 태도에 대한 처벌이었던 것 같은데 확실하진 않아) 할아버지는 전쟁과 나치 정권을 정말 싫어하셨기에, 탈출할 계획을 세웠어. 하지만 그렇다고 소련군한테 잡힐 생각도 없었지.

할아버지는 벨라루스의 무인지대에 의도적으로 비행기를 추락시켰어. 할아버지는 양측을 둘 다 피해다녔고, 전장에서 총을 주워모은 다음, 파르티잔과 다른 집단들로부터 식량을 받고 넘겨줬어. 할아버지는 그렇게 연명하셨어.

 

This however lasted not long and the soviets catched him. He was a pow for a short time until he escaped and tried to go roughly in the direction to his homeland. It would be easy to lie about the crash on purpose and the time he was away, he crippled his arm so lf he got home war would have been over for him or at least the front - but he was catched again by the soviets.

하지만 이는 오래가지 않았고, 종조할아버진 소련군한테 잡혔어.

잠시 포로로 지내던 종조할아버지는 탈출을 시도해서 고향으로 가려했어. 일부러 비행기 사고낸거랑, 그 오랜 기간 동안 어디에 있었는지에 대해서는 대충 둘러대면 될거라 생각했지. 비행기가 추락했을때 팔도 불구가 되었겠다, 집에 돌아가면 전쟁 아니면 최소한 최전방에서는 참전하지 않아도 되겠다 싶은 계산이었어. 

하지만 얼마 안가 또다시 소련군한테 붙잡혔지.

 

Because of his escape and his capabilities as a engineer the soviets thought he is better placed in the east, very east.

탈출 이력과 엔지니어라는 신분 때문에 할아버지는 소련의 극동으로 보내졌어.  

 

My great uncle didn t like it sooo he escaped again. Going west wasn t a option because the long way through russia. He had only one opportunity going more east and try to find a way home or to Japan or a neutral or friendly country. So he prepared as best as he could as a pow on the run and go east. He managed to get through the Dessert gobi.

할아버진 이걸 마음에 들어하지 않았어, 그래서 또 탈출하셨지. 서쪽으로 갈 수는 없었어, 러시아를 가로질러갈 수는 없었으니.

유일한 방법은 동쪽으로 가서, 집으로 가는 길을 찾거나 일본 아니면 중립국 아니면 우호적인 국가로 가는 것이었지. 그래서 할아버지는 전쟁포로 신분으로 최선을 다해 채비를 갖춘 다음 동쪽으로 향했어. 할아버지는 고비 사막을 통과하셨어.

 

Here the informations i can give are unfortunately ended. He survived, got back to germany, had from the plane crash a crippled arm but did water ski until he was i think 81. He also invented a silencer at some point for a rifle and enjoyed Computers and star Trek and smoked big cigars until he died.

아쉽게도 내가 제공할 수 있는 정보는 여기서 끝나.

종조할아버지는 살아남으셔서 독일로 돌아왔고, 비행기 추락 때문에 팔이 불구가 되었음에도 불구하고 81살까지 수상스키를 즐기셨어. 그리고 어쩌다 한 소총에 장착하는 소음기도 발명하셨고, 컴퓨터랑 스타트렉 좋아하셨어. 돌아가실 때까지 커다란 시가를 계속 피우셨지.

If interested my grandpa was also in the Luftwaffe at the canal. After some time he managed to Switch from bombing brits which he doesn t liked - because it s no honor to bomb citys - to a Search and Rescue Pilots out of the canal (both sides, brits became pows but better then drowning) position and also anti submarine role. His plane was named after my grandma (seen it on his photos). He also survived the war but unfortunately his love was in the Soviet occupied zone. He played a stupid game - visiting her and tried to go back in the US sector - and won a stupid Prize - soviets thought he is maybe a spy. Outcome: he was one of the last POWs who came back home 1954 - 9 years after the war

할아버지(종조할아버지가 아닌)는 영국해협 전투 당시 루프트바페 소속이셨어. 얼마 후 할아버지는 영국인 폭격을 그만 뒀어 – 도시를 폭격하는 것은 명예롭지 않다고 생각하셨대. 대신 할아버지는 대잠수함 임무와 조종사 수색 및 구조 임무를 맡았어. (양측 조종사 둘 다 구조하셨지, 영국 조종사들은 포로가 되었지만 죽는 것보단 나으니)

할아버지 비행기 이름은 우리 할머니 이름을 따서 지었어. (할아버지 사진에서 봤어)

할아버지도 전쟁에서 살아남으셨지만, 안타깝게도 할머니는 소련군 점령 지역에 있었어. 할아버지는 한번 소련 지역으로 넘어가서 할머니를 보고 다시 미국 점령 지역으로 넘어가려했지만, 소련군들은 그가 스파이일지도 모른다고 생각했어.

그 결과로, 할아버지는 전쟁이 끝난 뒤 마지막으로 풀려난 전쟁포로 중 하나가 되었어. 전쟁이 끝난지 9년 뒤인 1954년에 집으로 돌아오셨지.

 

Have to say he switched also because he was afraid - many of his buddys didn t came back. My father often listen and had to watch while he pointed on maps and explained where and which of his friends died, crashed or had to jumped out of their burning planes.

할아버지가 임무를 바꾼 이유는 두려웠기 때문이었던 것 같아. 할아버지의 친구 여럿이 돌아오지 못했거든. 우리 아빠는 할아버지가 가끔 지도를 가리키며 어디서 어떤 친구들이 죽었고, 추락했거나 불타는 비행기에서 뛰어내려야 했는지 설명하는걸 가만히 듣고 봐야했었어.
