술에 취한 해병, 미 태평양함대 사령관을 만나다

 

Short but sweet story.

짧고 재밌는 이야기.


There was a time, probably 15 years ago, that I was a dumb, drunk Marine on a plane. I was good most of the flight, until the flight attendant told me we were close to landing and no more alcohol could be purchased. I did not cause a scene like we see these days on the internet, but did have a conversation trying to convince her I was good to have another.

약 15년 전에, 난 멍청하고 술에 취한 해병이었고, 비행기를 타고 가는 중이었어. 난 잘 지내고 있었어, 승무원이 착륙이 임박했기 때문에 더 이상 술을 구매할 수 없다고 말하기 전까지는. 요즘 인터넷에서 보는 것처럼 소란을 피우진 않았지만, 마지막 한잔 더 마시게 해달라고 그녀를 설득하려했지.


A man across the aisle spoke up.

통로 건너편의 한 남자가 입을 열었어.


"Marine, I believe you've had enough until you get back to your base."

“해병, 내가 보기엔 이미 충분히 마신 것 같군. 이제 기지로 복귀하기 전까진 마시지 말게”


"And you are?"

“누구시길래?”


"The Admiral taking over the Pacific fleet."

“새로 부임하는 태평양함대 제독일세”


".......... do you have a card sir?" Presented with said card.

“……제독님 혹시 신분증 보여주실 수 있으십니까?” 제독은 신분증을 건네줬지.


"That's badass! "

“와 엄청나네요!”


conversation forgotten because I spent the last 30 min of the flight chatting back and forth with the new Commander of the Pacific Fleet.

그 이후 대화는 까먹었어, 비행 마지막 30분간 새 태평양함대 사령관님이랑 이야기 주고받느라.
