To the average person not into military/ political history is a relatively boring war. While the first part saw a lot of land being lost, regained, and lost again the majority of it was more or less a stalemate along the 38th parallel. You also had way less troops fighting compared to Vietnam about 300,000 vs 2.5 million serving over the whole course of the war so the impact of the draft was felt less. And the Korean War was still mainly a newspaper/ newsreel at the movies war while Vietnam was a television war that people could actually watch happen everyday right in their living rooms.

일반적인 사람, 특히 군사/정치 역사에 관심이 없는 사람들에게 6.25 전쟁은 상대적으로 지루한 전쟁으로 여겨집니다. 전쟁 초반에는 많은 땅을 잃고, 되찾고, 다시 잃는 일이 반복되었지만, 전쟁의 대부분은 38선 부근에서 교착 상태에 머물렀습니다. 또한, 베트남 전쟁과 비교했을 때 훨씬 적은 수의 병력이 참전했습니다 6.25 전쟁에는 약 30만 명이 참전한 반면, 베트남 전쟁에는 전쟁 전체 기간 동안 250만 명이 복무하여 징병제의 영향이 덜 느껴졌습니다. 그리고 6.25전쟁은 주로 신문이나 영화관 뉴스 영화를 통해 접하는 전쟁이었던 반면, 베트남 전쟁은 사람들이 실제로 매일 거실에서 벌어지는 상황을 시청할 수 있는 텔레비전 전쟁이었습니다.



I also think because it “ended” with a stalemate (yes, I’m aware that the war is still legally ongoing) rather than a magnificent WW2 victory or a humiliating Vietnam War defeat that the Korean War tends to be ignored. The US won its strategic aims but since there was no change in territory or government, and everyone was just sick of fighting, it just kind of ended with a whimper.

또한, 6.25 전쟁이 화려한 2차 세계 대전의 승리나 굴욕적인 베트남 전쟁의 패배가 아닌 교착 상태로 "끝났기" 때문에 (네, 전쟁이 법적으로는 여전히 진행 중이라는 것을 알고 있습니다) 무시당하는 경향이 있다고 생각합니다. 미국은 전략적 목표를 달성했지만, 영토나 정부의 변화가 없었고 모두가 싸움에 질렸기 때문에 흐지부지하게 끝났습니다.



WWII: we won, this is a good war and it’s basically a pro-war setting/vibe, usually movies are about battle setting in a more grandiose environment

Vietnam, to a lesser extent Iraq and afghan war: we lost, those are bad wars and it’s easy to have a anti-war vibe, usually movies are about individual soldiers and their inner struggle

Korea war: we didn’t lose but also most definitely didn’t win. It’s hard to set a main humanistic theme to it, movies are usually about thing outside of movies you need something more humanly relatable to tell a story to an audience who has zero experience and likely no real knowledge or interest in the history/war itself. Korea war doesn’t have that, at least for Americans (for the other participants there are ample materials though)

6.25 전쟁: 우리는 패배하지 않았지만, 확실히 승리하지도 않았습니다 6.25 전쟁에 주된 인간적인 주제를 설정하기는 어렵습니다. 영화는 보통 영화 외부의 것들에 관한 것입니다. 관객에게 이야기를 전달하려면 좀 더 인간적으로 공감할 수 있는 것이 필요합니다. 이들은 전쟁 자체에 대한 경험이 전혀 없고 역사/전쟁에 대한 지식이나 관심도 없을 가능성이 높습니다. 6.25  전쟁은 그런 요소가 부족합니다. 적어도 미국인들에게는 그렇습니다 (다른 참전국들을 위해서는 풍부한 자료가 있지만).




To many people, there was no clear winner or loser. Just a return to the status quo, so to speak.
Technically, the Korean War isn't even over without an actual peace treaty. It's still just an armistice.
There have been multiple US and South Korean casualties in and near the DMZ from intentional acts by the North Koreans.
Americans and many other people need a clear winner and loser in a conflict.

많은 사람들에게 있어서는 명확한 승자나 패자가 없었습니다. 말하자면, 그저 현상으로의 복귀일 뿐이었죠.
엄밀히 말하면, 6.25 전쟁은 실제 평화 조약 없이 끝나지도 않았습니다. 여전히 휴전 상태일 뿐입니다.
북한의 의도적인 행위로 인해 DMZ 안팎에서 여러 명의 미국인과 한국인 사상자가 발생했습니다.
미국인과 많은 다른 사람들은 분쟁에서 명확한 승자와 패자를 필요로 합니다.
