It's honerable only because the average civilian has really no clue what it's like or what we do on a daily basis. 


They mostly get their opinions from movies and such.


One guy saluted me and thanked me for "defending our nation". 


Wanted to roll my eyes and laugh but just saluted him back and said thanks.


If they knew or experienced it themselves, they'd probably be pretty pissed we spend almost a trillion dollars on defense.
